The Base Carrickfergus & Larne
"The promotion of opportunities, in the heart of the local community, for adults with learning disabilities."
The Base is one of Kilcreggan's new projects as we are now working in partnership with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust. The facility is designed to enhance community-based day services for adults with learning disabilities in line with the 'five-year strategy'. There are eight Bases across Northern Ireland, providing a range of opportunities to promote social inclusion. The Bases are managed by a coordinator and a team of volunteers. Activities include arts and crafts, use of Leisure centre, cinema, shopping, out for coffee and lunch. All these opportunities help boost confidence and develop friendships, as the adults have the independence to plan their own day by availing of facilities within their community.
Our Base has many links to the local community by being involved in workshops and classes that are happening in Carrickfergus and Larne, also members from local businesses have conducted workshops at the Base. Clients also regularly benefit of the leisure centre and the activities it has on offer. We also often enjoy outings to the Empire Comedy Club, Belfast Continental Market and Balmoral Show and many more places!
Access to 'The Base' is by referral from the Northern Health & Social Services Care Trust Day Opportunities Co-Ordinator.
